Robin Iffla, our lead trainer and director, is based in Stirling. He's been working in the field of diversity for over 20 years.
As a police officer
Robin was appointed as lead trainer with Central Scotland Police in 2001 to deliver Diversity Awareness training. He delivered this training to all levels of the service including strategic managers, managers, supervisors, constables, support and all manual staff, both full and part-time. During his police career, Robin's been seconded to various authorities and partner agencies, primarily working on issues of race and equalities. His final secondment was to Central Scotland Fire and Rescue service as their Equality and Diversity Officer - a position he held for a further year and a half after he retired from the service. He was responsible for producing their equality schemes and delivering equality and diversity training to all personnel.
As Chair and currently Honorary President of SEMPERscotland
This is a support network for minority ethnic police officers and support staff. As chair, Robin had a Scottish-wide responsibility and a national remit for consultation and agenda setting. He continues to keep informed on the current issues surrounding equality and diversity within the police service, particularly in the field of recruitment, retention and progression of minority ethnic personnel.
As a consultant
Robin set up Robin Iffla Training Limited in 2005. He uses his own personal life experiences to reinforce and enhance the training. Having suffered racist abuse (both verbally and physically) he uses real life stories of a minority ethnic person living in the UK. Building on that theme, he uses lay speakers during our courses and encourages participants to share their own life experiences. We believe this is one of the reasons our courses are so effective and successful. Having had extensive experience of working in and with public sector organisations, charitable groups and private sector businesses Robin is fully aware of the issues surrounding diversity facing employers and employees. Robin has an extensive knowledge of the relevant legislation covering all strands of diversity included in our course.
